A: Histrionic personality disorder is a condition under “Cluster B” or “dramatic” personality disorders. People suffering from such disorders display extreme, unstable emotions and distorted self-images. For those who are suffering from histrionic personality disorder, their self-esteem is dependent on the others’ approval and does not come from a true feeling of self-worth. They have an over-the-top desire to be noticed, and for the most part behave dramatically or inappropriately in an attempt to get attention. The word histrionic means “dramatic or theatrical.”
This disorder is more commonly observed in women than in men and is typically evident come adolescence or early adulthood.
